Five Nights at Freddy’s is a survival horror game set inside Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where the player works as a night security guard. During the day, the restaurant’s animatronic characters entertain visitors, but at night they begin moving through the building on their own. The player remains inside a small security office and must survive each shift until 6 AM. The story is not presented through a traditional campaign with cutscenes. Instead, information about the restaurant, the animatronics, and previous incidents is gradually revealed through phone messages, visual details, and hidden events.

Watching the Animatronics

The main tool is a security camera system covering different rooms and corridors. Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy move through the restaurant in different ways, so the player needs to check their locations regularly. Bonnie approaches from the left side of the office, Chica usually comes from the right, Foxy requires attention at Pirate Cove, and Freddy becomes more dangerous during later nights. Lights beside both office doors help determine whether an animatronic is waiting outside.

Power and Defensive Tools

Every useful system consumes electricity, and the available power must last for the entire night. The player can use:

·         security cameras to track animatronics;

·         the left and right door lights;

·         two security doors;

·         camera switching to monitor different rooms;

·         visual and audio clues to judge nearby threats;

·         careful power management to survive until 6 AM.

Keeping doors closed continuously is not a safe strategy because they consume power while active. If electricity reaches zero, the cameras, lights, and security doors stop functioning, leaving the office exposed.

Each night functions as a separate level and gradually increases the difficulty. The main sequence contains five nights, with additional challenges available after completing them. Animatronics become more active as the week progresses, forcing the player to check cameras more efficiently and conserve electricity more carefully. There are no weapons, character upgrades, or free-roaming sections in the original game.

How to Survive

Success depends on learning each animatronic’s behavior rather than constantly using every defensive system. Cameras should be checked briefly, lights used only when necessary, and doors closed only when a threat is immediately outside. The player must balance information and power consumption throughout the shift because surviving with no electricity becomes increasingly difficult. Five Nights at Freddy’s therefore turns a fixed security office, limited resources, and several moving enemies into a repeated survival challenge where observation and timing determine whether the player reaches 6 AM.
