Kingdom Rush is a tower defense game in which the player protects the kingdom of Linirea from armies led by the dark wizard Vez’nan. The main campaign contains 12 stages, beginning at Southport and eventually reaching The Dark Tower, where Vez’nan is confronted. Enemy waves follow fixed roads toward the exit, and losing too many lives causes the stage to fail. Later versions also include bonus stages and additional mini-campaigns after the core story.

Four Types of Towers

Defenses are built on designated construction points beside enemy paths. Archer Towers provide fast physical attacks, Mage Towers deal magic damage, Barracks deploy soldiers who can block enemies directly, and Artillery attacks groups with area damage. Each tower can be upgraded through several levels before choosing between two specialized final forms, such as Rangers or Musketeers for Archers and Arcane Wizards or Sorcerers for Mages.

Heroes, Spells, and Enemy Waves

Gold earned during a battle is spent on new towers and upgrades. Players can also move a hero around the battlefield and use two rechargeable abilities: Reinforcements summon temporary soldiers, while Rain of Fire damages enemies in a selected area. Opponents include goblins, orcs, trolls, necromancers, demons, flying creatures, armored units, and bosses with different resistances and abilities.

Important actions during a stage include:

·         building towers near important sections of the road;

·         upgrading defenses as stronger waves arrive;

·         using Barracks to stop enemies in useful positions;

·         moving the hero between threatened areas;

·         deploying Reinforcements to delay advancing groups;

·         saving Rain of Fire for dangerous waves or strong enemies.

Stars and Additional Challenges

Completing a campaign stage awards up to three stars depending on how many lives remain. Stars are spent on permanent upgrades for the four tower categories and the two spells, improving their performance throughout later stages. Completed levels also unlock Heroic and Iron challenges, which change enemy waves, available towers, resources, or other restrictions and award additional stars when completed.

Kingdom Rush focuses on choosing defenses that match the enemies entering each lane. Physical towers work differently from magic attacks, flying enemies cannot be stopped by ordinary soldiers, and large groups can require artillery or spells. Since towers can only be placed at specific points, success depends on deciding where to build, when to upgrade, and when to save gold for a stronger specialization instead of filling every available construction site.
