Hills of Steel is a physics-based tank combat game where players drive armored vehicles across hilly battlefields and destroy enemy tanks. There is no story-focused campaign with named characters or dialogue. Progress is built around battles, collecting loot, unlocking new tanks, and improving their combat statistics. Terrain affects movement and aiming, so positioning on hills is important when trying to land shots while avoiding incoming projectiles.
Tanks and Physics-Based Combat
Each tank has its own weapons and abilities. The available lineup includes vehicles such as Cobra, Joker, Titan, Phoenix, and Reaper, along with other machines ranging from conventional tanks to more unusual designs. Players can improve speed, firepower, and armor, making upgraded vehicles more effective against stronger opponents. Since projectiles follow physics-based trajectories, hills can block shots, create firing angles, or leave a tank exposed at the top of a slope.
Different Ways to Battle
Hills of Steel includes several modes rather than one fixed level sequence. Adventure provides battles and loot progression, Arcade includes Survival battles against repeated waves of tanks and bosses, and Versus focuses on competition against other players. Current Versus options include 1v1, 2v2, and Commander battles, while weekly Events provide additional challenges and rewards.
During battles, players need to:
· drive forward and backward across uneven terrain;
· aim shots by changing the tank’s position and angle;
· fire when enemies enter a useful trajectory;
· use special tank abilities when available;
· collect loot and tank-related rewards;
· upgrade vehicles before facing harder battles.
Upgrades and Long-Term Progress
Combat becomes more demanding as stronger enemies and bosses appear. Upgrading a preferred tank increases its durability, damage, and mobility, while special weapons and abilities provide additional options during fights. Some battles also include mid-battle upgrade stations that can repair the active tank or unlock temporary abilities, allowing the player to strengthen the vehicle without leaving the battlefield.
Progress continues through new tanks, upgrades, ranks, events, and increasingly difficult encounters. Battles take place across different environments, including ordinary battlefields and the Moon, but the central mechanics remain focused on controlling momentum, choosing firing positions, and using terrain effectively. Hills of Steel therefore combines vehicle combat with simple physics: driving directly at an opponent is rarely enough, because the shape of each hill can determine whether a shot connects, passes overhead, or hits the ground before reaching its target.
